The conference titled “Education Policies of the Republican Era” was organized by our University’s Science Communication Office within the scope of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Science Café events, with the participation of our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Gençbay, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Prof. Dr. Fürüzan Çelik, and Head of the Science Communication Office Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nergiz Aydoğdu.
During his presentation, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. Ertuğ Can addressed the major educational reforms implemented during the Atatürk era and evaluated the steps taken in the early years of the Republic to establish a modern and scientific education system. Prof. Dr. Can stated that the policies implemented during this period left an important legacy that continues to shape Türkiye’s educational vision.
Director of the Vocational School of Social Sciences Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahmut Akkor emphasized that the 1933 University Reform played a transformative role in the history of Turkish higher education. He noted that the reform strengthened the institutional structure of universities and made significant contributions to academic development, adding that this process laid the foundations of the modern university concept.
The conference concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers.
